I've seen more than my fair share of articles on "What is Art?" and surely to try to define it is as much of an art as making art. An artist knows what they're doing, or at least believes it. It's those of us around the artist that wonders, "WWTT?" (I also ascribe the acronym to people who paint their homes bright marine blue: "What Were They Thinking?")
You could say that about Calder or Christo, or Rembrandt or Michaelango in the day.

Was the cross really there?
And more importantly, WWTT? |
I could go out on a limb as define a dentist that can perform oral surgery without evincing pain an artist. Or a demolition expert who can bring down a 19-story building without damage to any other. A politician who can write legislation that appeals to all? Or a civil engineer who can build a trafficway that is free of snarls?
Genius, all.
But is it art. No, not really.
You just know art when you see it. It's an emotional response to someone's creation. It is to be human after all the necessities of life are taken care of.
Thus, what you will find here are definitions of various types and methods of art in hopes of creating a definition of art.
There's a life-long project, huh?
